Privacy Policy
How we handle your information and keep your answers private and secure.
Last updated: 23 July 2026
Justice Draft (ABN 23 287 466 234) is a free Australian tool that helps victims of crime write a victim impact statement. What you share with us is sensitive, and we treat it that way. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and the choices you have.
We are a small Australian business, and small businesses are often exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We follow the Australian Privacy Principles anyway, because of the nature of what you trust us with.
The short version
- We collect your answers and your email address so we can build your statement and send it to you.
- We never sell your information, and we never share it with courts, police, lawyers or the person who harmed you.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time, and we will.
What we collect
Your answers to the statement questions. Your name, if you choose to include it in your statement. Your email address, so we can send your finished statement to you.
If you email us, we collect what you send us so we can respond. Like most websites, our providers also keep basic technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the service secure and working.
Your answers may include information about your health, your safety and what happened to you. Australian privacy law treats this as sensitive information. By writing your statement with us, you consent to us handling it for the purposes set out in this policy. Share only what you are comfortable sharing. Every question can be skipped.
Where your words go
You type your answers into our form. They are stored in our database, hosted by Supabase. Your finished statement is emailed to you by Resend, our email delivery provider. A copy of your responses also comes to our administrative inbox, so we can fix delivery problems and help you if something goes wrong. Access is limited to the people who run Justice Draft.
What we use your information for
One purpose. Building your statement and getting it to you. That means creating your document, emailing it to you, responding when you contact us, keeping the service running, and meeting legal obligations if they arise.
We do not use your information for marketing. We do not sell it. No artificial intelligence system processes your answers, and your words are never used to train AI.
Who can see your information
We use a small number of service providers to run Justice Draft. Supabase hosts our database. Resend delivers your statement to your email. Webflow hosts our website. These providers store and process information on our behalf, and we choose providers with strong security practices.
We do not give your information to courts, police, prosecutors, lawyers, support services or the person who harmed you. Your statement is delivered to you and no one else. The only exception is if the law requires us to disclose information.
Where your information is stored
Some of our providers store information outside Australia, including in the United States. Australian privacy law calls this an overseas disclosure. We keep our list of providers short and choose them carefully.
How long we keep it
We currently keep form responses until you ask us to delete them. We are developing a fixed retention schedule, and we will update this policy when it is in place.
If you want your information deleted now, email support@justicedraft.com.au. We will delete your responses from our systems and confirm when it is done.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email support@justicedraft.com.au and we will respond promptly.
You do not have to use your real name in the form, and you can use any email address that reaches you. If you are worried about someone seeing your email, some people set up a new address just for this.
Children and young people
Justice Draft is designed for adults. A victim impact statement is a formal document, and a young person preparing one deserves real support around them. If you are under 18, please use Justice Draft with a trusted adult, such as a parent, a support worker or a lawyer. If a parent, guardian or support person has concerns about information a young person has shared with us, contact support@justicedraft.com.au and we will help, including deleting it.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and reputable providers. No online service can promise perfect security. Email in particular is convenient but not the most private place to keep something. Once your statement arrives, consider saving it somewhere safe and deleting the email, especially if you share a device with anyone.
Cookies and analytics
Our website is hosted on Webflow, which may set cookies needed for the site to work. We do not use analytics tools or advertising trackers.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your information, email support@justicedraft.com.au and we will look into it and reply to you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
When our practices change, we will update this policy and change the date at the top. If we make significant changes, we will say so clearly on this page.
