Terms of Use
The rules and conditions for using Justice Draft — please read before getting started.
Last updated: 23 July 2026
These terms cover your use of Justice Draft, a free Australian tool that helps victims of crime write a victim impact statement. Justice Draft is operated by Justice Draft (ABN 23 287 466 234). By using our website or the guided statement tool, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information, and it forms part of these terms.
The short version
- Justice Draft is a free writing tool. It is not legal advice, and using it does not create a lawyer and client relationship.
- Your words are yours. We claim no ownership of your statement.
- Your statement must be truthful, and you are responsible for checking it and for how you use it.
- Requirements differ between states, territories and processes. Check what applies to your matter.
What Justice Draft is
Justice Draft guides you through writing a victim impact statement, one question at a time, and turns your answers into a document that is emailed to you. The service also includes general information articles and fictional example statements.
Justice Draft is a writing tool. It is not a law firm, a legal service, a counselling service or a victim support service.
What Justice Draft is not
We do not provide legal advice. Nothing on this site, and nothing in your finished document, is advice about your matter. We cannot tell you what to include for your specific case, how a court or assessor will treat your statement, or what outcome to expect.
Victim impact statement requirements differ between Australian states and territories, and between processes. Rules about who can make a statement, what it can include, and how and when it is submitted are set by the relevant court, prosecuting agency or compensation scheme, not by us. Check the requirements that apply to your matter with the prosecutor, the court, the relevant scheme, a victim support service or a lawyer.
Justice Draft is not a crisis or emergency service, and we do not monitor form responses in real time. If you or someone else is in danger, call 000. If you need support, Lifeline is on 13 11 14 and 1800RESPECT is on 1800 737 732, both any time.
Your statement and your responsibilities
Your statement is a formal document. Courts and compensation assessors rely on it, and knowingly false statements can have serious consequences. By using Justice Draft you agree that what you write is true to the best of your knowledge, that the finished document reflects your own experience in your own words, that you will read your statement carefully before you sign it, submit it or rely on it, and that you are responsible for how and where you use it.
If someone is helping you, such as a support worker, family member or friend, they are welcome to use the tool with you, with your knowledge and agreement. The statement must still be your account. Do not use Justice Draft to create a statement for another person without their knowledge, or to impersonate anyone.
Young people
Justice Draft is designed for adults. If you are under 18, please use it with a trusted adult, such as a parent, a support worker or a lawyer. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in these circumstances.
Using the service fairly
You agree not to misuse Justice Draft. That includes not using the service to harass, threaten or defame anyone, not submitting unlawful content, not attempting to probe, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to our systems, and not scraping or bulk-copying our content or using automated tools to access the service.
We may refuse, suspend or limit access to the service where we reasonably believe these terms are being breached.
Your words are yours
You own your statement and everything you type into the form. We claim no rights over your words. You give us only the limited permission we need to run the service: to receive, store and process your answers, assemble your document, and email it to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Our content
The Justice Draft website, the guided template, our articles and our example statements are protected by copyright and belong to us. You are welcome to read, download and print our content for your personal use. You may not republish it, sell it or present it as your own.
Our example statements are fictional. They exist to show what a finished statement can look like. Do not copy an example statement, in whole or in part, and submit it as your own. Your statement must be your own account.
A free service, provided as is
Justice Draft is currently free for individuals to use. We work to keep the service available and accurate, but we provide it as is. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every document will deliver successfully to every email provider. We may change, pause or discontinue features, and we will take reasonable care when we do.
Your statement is delivered by email to the address you give us. Please enter it carefully and use an address you can safely access. Once your statement arrives, it is in your control, including who can see the email.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded.
To the extent the law permits, and subject to the paragraph above, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, and our total liability in connection with the service is limited to resupplying the service to you. You remain responsible for decisions about your legal matter, including whether and how to submit your statement.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and if we make significant changes, we will say so clearly on this page. Continuing to use Justice Draft after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, and any disputes are subject to the courts operating there. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest continues to apply.
